The Election of Labor Union of China Steel
Corporation for the 11th President
and 100 Delegates has successfully completed on
Nov. 17. It was one of the most competitive
elections in the record.
There
were
5 candidates in total for this
Presidential
election, namely Mr. Wu Hsieh-Mao (Registered
No. 1), Mr. Wei Chao-Chin (No. 2), Mr. Ku
Fu-Tsai (No. 3), Mr. Chen Cheng-Chih (No. 4) and
Mr. Chang Pi-Fu (No. 5). The newly elected President is
Mr. Wei Chao Chin. He is current chief
representative as well as convener of collective
bargaining committee. He will take office on Jan
4, 2011.
The high turnout rate 94.1% (8,527/9,059 voters
in total) showed a great support and recognition
to Union’s election. Mr. Wei Chao Chin has
gained the highest polling rate 38.7%
(3,301/8,527 voters) among the others. He shall
be one of the delegates when taking office on
Jan 4. As for the election of delegates, there
were 99 delegates out of 138 candidates.
Besides expressing the gratitude to all members,
Mr. Wei emphasized that
“Union’s
power comes from all members, we can not afford
to split out, in other words, we should
disregard all the unjustified propagandas which
were distributed during the 2 weeks pre-election
campaigns and should work hand in hand for a
more united Union in order to fight for a more
decent and fair working conditions.”
Facing new challenges, such
as the newly revised Trade Union Law to be
enacted next May 1st, he promises to take
different politics from other candidates and
consolidate a proper one for the Union.
All candidates made great efforts to promote
themselves and their future plan by hosting
campaigns and delivering flyers during the 2
weeks. Despite the election result, it can be
generalized that the 5 candidates did work hard
for Taiwan’s industrial democracy which deserves
a big applause.
