Mr. S.T. Wu, the President of Labour Union of China Steel Corp. called a demonstration which united 2,000 member- employees on Jan 21st for protesting the new appointed President Candidacy. The Taiwan Confederation of Trade Unions (TCTU), Kaohsiung City Confederation of Trade Unions (KCCTU) and some other allied unions came around 100 people to support this event.
The tension of the industrial relations between CSC and the Labour Union came along with the newly assigned Presidency. The Mr. Wu, the Union President and the executive board shaved their hair to show their anger towards the CEO Mr. Chang and the Government. Based on CSC’s recruitment regulation, retired employees who received special pension benefit can not be re-employed. However, Mr. Chou, the newly appointed President broke the rule. Mr. Wu stressed that CSC’s future as well as employees’ benefits can not be sacrificed by the political parties nor by the Government. Enterprise management should be considered based on one’s speciality and professionalism. If Mr. Chou can break this rule, any retired employees who are under 65 years-old can follow the same pattern.
The essential request of this demonstration was to defend CSC’s regulation and value. Mr. Wu led the executive board to meet Mr. Minister Shih of the Ministry of Economic Affairs right after the demonstration this afternoon and expect the Government could respect industrial democracy and CSC’s regulation. |
