Mr. Y.C.Chen, the President of China Steel Corporation (CSC) will be retired on the coming 1st of Feb, however, the new succession has not yet been announced at this point. The potential candidacy has been driven a lot attention from all industries. Some news reports even predicted the candidate might be someone who had retired and received a special pension benefit from CSC a few years ago.
Mr. S.T. Wu, the President of the Labour Union of CSC called a provisional Congress on Jan 14 and expressed his perspective that if the President candidacy is not promoted from the current employees but assigned by the Government, first of all, it will discourage employees’ motivation and morale in the workplace;secondly, the internal promotion system will be destroyed according to CSC retirement regulation. Any retiree who received a special pension benefit can not be re-employeed by CSC. Another key concern is that the assigned candidacy might turn to be a profit-sharing leverage by the Government.
President Wu stressed that we do not tend to oppose nor support any particular candidate for this position. Our request and expectation is that the President of the enterprise must be promoted from the current employees and who understands and respects CSC’s culture and value. The Executive board was authorized by the Provisional Congress and has determined to call a sit-down demonstration on Jan 21st from 11:30 am. Your solidarity support is highly appreciated.
